The Cornell Veterinary Biobank (CVB) is proud to announce that Dr. Lara Mouttham’s paper, “A Biobank's Journey: Implementation of a Quality Management System and Accreditation to ISO 20387” was awarded the Rosalind Franklin Society /Mary Ann Liebert (RFS/MAL) Award for the journal Biopreservation and Biobanking.

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers, known for establishing impactful journals in areas of science and biomedical research partnered with Rosalind Franklin Society for this prestigious annual award to recognize the best paper by a woman in science or under-represented minority in each of the publisher’s 100 peer-reviewed journal. It also highlights the important contributions of these scientists.

In their paper, Dr. Mouttham and co-authors, Susan Garrison, Denise Archer, and Marta Castelhano discussed the experience of the CVB in becoming the first biobank in the world to achieve ISO 20387 accreditation. The paper describes in detail the preparation steps, the challenges faced and how the CVB overcame them, and the lessons learned during the process. It should serve as a valuable guide to other biobanks striving to attain accreditation to this ISO standard.

The accomplishments reported in this paper affirm the commitment of the CVB to advance biobanking and biospecimens science as a field of study.

All winners of the RFS / MAL Award in Science were announced in July 2022 in honor of Rosalind Franklin’s birthday. An anthology of all the winners’ abstracts was also published and can be viewed here, https://lnkd.in/dYB4Y8-e.

Championing diversity and inclusivity in the field of science, Biopreservation and Biobanking have granted free access to Dr. Mouttham’s paper through December 31, 2022.
